ENPAC Overpacks, Perfect solution to store Transformers, and other large prone to leak equipment.

Available from 20 Gallon to 600 Gallon  –  That’s huge! With top diameter of 1.8 meters!

ENPAC’s Overpack Drums provide secondary containment solution for non-hazardous materials, absorbents, and spill response. They are also commonly used to protect transformers, pumps, and large industrial machinery prone to leakage during storage or internal facility transport. The 600 gallon Overpack Drum, with its generous 1.8-meter opening, offers an impressive capacity of 2,271 liters and supports loads up to 2,268 kg (UDL), making it ideal for oversized items or irregularly shaped items requiring secure containment.

  • Constructed from durable, UV resistant HDPE, these drums are lightweight, nestable for shipping and storage.
  • Ideal for Leak-Prone Machinery – Commonly used for transformers, pumps, or unshaped items prone to leak.
  • It’s important to note that if the intention is to transport anything inside the overpack, then Salvage Drums are the right option.
  • Maximize containment efficiency by combining these drums with our top-grade Absorbents.
  • We ship across the GCC and African region – Enjoy free delivery on bulk purchases and discounted rates for traders. Contact us to learn more!

A salvage drum is much more than your average drum or overpack. Designed specifically to prevent spills of hazardous materials during transport, a salvage drum must undergo rigorous testing to meet UN Ratings administered by the DOT. ENPAC Salvage drums are tested internally by a team of specialized engineers to simulate real-life scenarios to ensure complete compliance and protection.

Qualified to self-certify by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), ENPAC tests salvage drums to meet the following DOT standards:

Leakproofness Test (DOT 49 CFR 178.604)

Drums filled with compressed air must pass a specified pressure test for a minimum of five minutes with no leaks.

Stack Test (DOT 49 CFR 178.606)

The unit is required to be stacked 3 meters high with the rated load for 24 hours.

Drop Test (DOT 49 CFR 178.603)

Drums are required to be dropped from a height determined by the packing group without sustaining cracking or damage.

Vibration Test (DOT 49 CFR 178.608)

The packaging must withstand vibrations of a specified frequency for 60 minutes without ruptures or leaks. This test is required only for new designs or substantial modifications.

Once certified, each drum must be labeled with the term SALVAGE or SALVAGE DRUM and with the proper UN markings.  All these tests and certifications ensure that these drums are not only compliant but also reliable and safe for transporting hazardous materials.

Important Note:  All Salvage Drums are Overpacks, but NOT all Overpacks are Salvage Drums.

Frequently Asked Questions

📌  What is Overpack?

An Overpack drum is a secondary containment used to protect a container, usually a standard 200 liter steel drum, that has non-hazardous materials in it. ENPAC has Overpacks sizes ranging from 20-gallons (80 liters) up to 600-gallons (2271 liters)!  These are best for storage of all kinds of chemicals or small transformers. It’s important to note that if the intention is to transport anything inside the Overpack, then a Salvage Drum is the suitable option.

📌  What’s U.N. rating, and how to understand them?

The U.N. rating on Salvage Drums indicates that they meet specific international standards for the safe transport of hazardous materials. These ratings are part of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, which are recognized worldwide, further details as follows.

📌  How to setup right Spill Control & Containment area in your workspace?

To set up an effective Spill Control and Containment Area, first identify spill risks by assessing stored liquids, determining potential spill volume, and identifying high-risk zones.  Use appropriate containment solutions like Spill PalletsSpill TraysContainment BermsFlexible Liners, and Drain Covers to prevent leaks from spreading.  Stock essential Spill Control products, including Spill Kits (oil-only, universal, chemical), Absorbents (Absorbent Booms, Absorbent Pads, Granules – whichever you use more frequent), Salvage / Overpack drums, and PPE (gloves, goggles, respirators).  Store hazardous liquids in FM Approved Safety Cabinets or Steel Pallets, use Secondary Containment for bulk liquid storage, and label all containers properly. Train employees on spill response procedures, conduct regular drills, and ensure they know the locations of Spill Kits, PPE & other relevant accessories. Finally, establish a spill response plan with defined roles, emergency contacts, and spill incident records to maintain compliance and safety.  To explore the above in detail, please visit our detailed blog about the same.
